Chengzhu Mandarin Centre was a natural evolution, shaped by over twelve years of experience delivering Mandarin programmes at Julia Gabriel Centre. As the demand for a deeper, more immersive learning experience grew, the time felt right to take the next step—creating a dedicated space where children and their families could be fully immersed in both the Chinese language and its rich cultural heritage.
Our vision was to offer a holistic, meaningful, and lasting educational journey, grounded in authentic experiences and purposeful learning. That vision became a reality in January 2012, when Chengzhu Mandarin Centre officially opened its doors.
Our unique approach ensures that students enjoy the process of learning, absorb vocabulary, expand their imagination and deepen their understanding through drama, storytelling, music, role play and games. Combined with a positive, joyful and immersive environment, students progress to mastery effortlessly.
We partner closely with parents at every stage of their child’s Mandarin learning journey. To ensure progress, we maintain regular communication, offer practical at-home learning tips and actively involve you in our centre activities.
Our Programmes
Early Learning Programmes
For ages 6 months – 3 years
PlayNest and PlayClub are parent-accompanied programmes that support early language development through theme-based, hands-on activities that stimulate the senses and build cognitive, physical and social-emotional skills.
Children are introduced to Standard Mandarin through engaging activities like storytelling, puppetry, songs, art, drama and healthy snack time.
When your child is ready for independent learning, our PlayClub Independent programme will nurture key developmental areas-communication, listening, self-help, motor and social-emotional skills-within a safe, Mandarin-rich environment.
Foundation Years Programmes
For ages 3 – 6 years

Our Language Learners programme prepares your child for the Primary 1 Chinese curriculum, supporting their transition from preschool. Through our holistic EduDrama® methodology, children develop essential language skills in all four key areas-speaking, listening, reading, and writing-engaging in scripting, imaginative play, and language games. This immersive approach encourages language acquisition in a playful, dynamic environment, allowing children to learn Mandarin naturally and enjoyably.
In our Chinese Cultural Arts programme, your child will explore the richness of Chinese heritage through music, dance, art, storytelling and drama-engaging with Mandarin in a dynamic, creative environment. By experiencing the language in context, children naturally develop stronger listening and speaking skills, expand their vocabulary, and gain a deeper, more intuitive understanding of how the language is used. Immersion in culture brings language to life, making learning both meaningful and memorable.
School Years Programmes
For ages 7 – 12 years (Primary 1 to Primary 6)
Our Language Skills, Creative Writing, and Mandarin Expressions programmes are thoughtfully designed to support your child’s ongoing progress in Mandarin, in line with the requirements of Singapore’s Ministry of Education (MOE) curriculum. Each programme hones specific language abilities, helping students build a strong foundation while nurturing confidence, clarity, and creativity in their language use.
• Language Skills Programme (Primary 1–4)
Our Language Skills programme provides the essential building blocks for your child’s Mandarin proficiency. Through dynamic and interactive lessons, we focus on enhancing listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Using a variety of engaging activities such as storytelling, oral language exercises, and picture comprehension, your child will develop both fluency and accuracy. The programme ensures they will gain a solid foundation in the language as they build the confidence to express themselves clearly and effectively, whether in everyday conversation or academic contexts.
• Creative Writing Programme (Primary 1–4)
